Two Seaside Babes

I have been eyeballing Two Seaside Babes shop for a long time now. I bought some hats not to long ago to give as gifts and was so impressed with the quality of craftsmanship that I knew that I wanted one for myself. However, Southern California isn't exactly the kind of location where I NEED a really warm hat. So, I just kept her shop marked as a favorite for awhile and spent time wishful thinking about it.

Then, my husband reminded me that we are due for a new duty station next, and chances are, we will end up someplace that has weather that varies by more than a few degrees. My response to him was simply, "You know that I'm going to need a cute hat for that, right???" So, there I was, with a green light to buy one of the hats from Two Seaside Babes.

That brought a new challenge, however. What to choose???

In the end, after much deliberation (and a conference with my husband), I chose this one
Now, if you are looking for something else, she has lots of other goodies! Check out her hats for newborns, 1T to 2T, 2T to 4T, 4T to Preteen, Scarves, Cowls, and Wraps, Necklaces and Headbands, Blankets and Photo Props, and more!!

Be sure to check her out here! She's wonderful to work with, her customer service is outstanding, and her work is amazing.

I've been slacking, but I have a good excuse.....

My husband and I went to LA on Saturday morning because we had been invited to a gymnastics meet. Well, when we got there, we found out that due to the weather on the east coast, one of the teams couldn't make it. As a result, the meet was canceled. My husband and I had been looking at a dog on the Lange Foundation Website, and since we were in the area with nothing to do, we thought we'd go and take a peek at some of the dogs.

When we got there, the dog that we had been looking at was away at some training classes. The people there were so friendly, and they encouraged us to go to the West LA Animal Shelter and look around. We thought we'd go ahead and "just take a look." Is there such a thing???

Immediately, when we started to look at the dogs, I was greeted, by this girl. As I walked by, she jumped up on her kennel to get my attention and smiled at me. I walked over and crouched down to get a better look at her, and she stuck both of her paws out from under the door as if she were trying to hold my hands. She started trying to lick me through the door, and I turned to mush. Did we need another dog? Did we want another dog? Was this the best time for us to get another dog? Was she the right dog for us?? We took Daphne, that's her name, to the side yard with one of the volunteers to play with her. She was a big, energetic ball of love. She just wanted to play and give us lots and lots of kisses. I lost it. I burst into tears at the thought of leaving this sweet baby there. My husband wanted to take her, and she obviously wanted us to be her new family. So, we adopted her. As we were finalizing the details, the volunteer mentioned that Tuesday was Daphne's last day at the shelter. She had been there for too long, and if she didn't get adopted, that was it. That made us even more certain that we were making the right decision.

There was a little uncertainty about how she would get along with Batman, our French Bulldog, but as soon as we introduced the two of them, they hit it off. They have been great together, and Daphne has gotten along very well with everyone (on four legs and two) that's she's met so far. That's not to say that there hasn't been some adjusting, and some potty training that's needed to happen :o), but that's to be expected. She's worth the effort.

So, we are now a family of four, two humans, and two wonderful doggies!

StumbleUpon Find

The other day, I was Stumbling. Stumble Upon is a website that allows you to put in your interests and it will bring up websites that it thinks you might like, based on those interests. It's a great way to procrastinate and you can usually find some pretty cool websites along the way.

Recently, I found a website that provides Bath and Body Recipes. The site has over 800 recipes for everything from lip balm, shampoo and facial masks, to scrubs, salts and bath bombs. Pretty sweet, right? Now, one of my health conditions results in my body not processing water properly. This means that I am always dehydrated, so lotions, potions, and anything moisturizing are my friends, but that can get expensive. So, I'm excited to give some of these recipes a whirl. Stay tuned to see how it goes......

Supplies on Etsy

Apparently, I'm a little slow at things. I have always gone to the store to get supplies for my bags. Then, one day, it occurred to me that Etsy probably has some of things that I need. After a quick search, I was amazed. Not only is almost everything I need available on Etsy, it's actually WAY cheaper than the store, even with shipping, and I'm saving gas money too! AWESOME!!

For zippers, I was paying $1.29 each at a local store. Then I found ZipIt on Etsy. There, the pricing depends on how many you order. I prchased 35 9 inch zippers in my first order, and paid $.45 cents each. If you include the price of shipping, I paid $.55 each. Less than half of what I was paying in the store!! They have a huge variety of colors and sizes, and they are really friendly. They didn't have one of the colors I was looking for, so they ordered it, and let me know when it arrived. I'll definitely be ordering from there from now on.

Next, are my labels. I've always gotten my labels from Etsy, and I highly recommend Jennifer's Jewels. Her labels are gorgeous, durable, and her customer service is fantastic! For my first set of labels, I ordered one of her gorgeous designs, and had A Stone's Throw printed on them.
The second order I placed from her, we worked together to create a unique set of labels that matched my shop banner, and fit the mood of my shop better. Jennifer answered all of my questions and was wonderful to work with! I am thrilled with the way my new labels look, and you can expect to see them unveiled in the next few weeks!! She offers both iron on and sew in labels, so she's sure to have something to meet your needs!!

My logo was designed by Tracy Tessmer. She is an amazing photographer whom I met on Twitter. She is no longer doing design work, but her photography is worth checking out! I would honestly fly to Texas to work with her. She's that good!
Lastly, I just stumbled across BeingBags on Etsy. They have a lot of the minor details that my bags need: magnetic snaps, swivel clips, and D Rings. Their prices are just a bit lower than the prices are at the store, but they offer free shipping, and I am able to purchase larger quantities. I haven't placed my order yet, but with over 1770 feedback, and a 100% positive feedback rating, I'm feeling very confident that I will be happy with my order.

The vacation, the tattoo, and the line of purses

When my husband returned from his first deployment with the Marine Corps, we finally got to take a honeymoon. We made the decision to go to Hawaii. Here we are at a Luau.
While we were at this Laua, the air smelled amazing! There were plumeria flowers everywhere, and there were all of these little craft booths for us to make bracelets and headbands out of the flowers. As I was making my bracelet, they were explaining that it's Hawaiian tradition to wear these flowers on the left side of your body if you are taken, and on the right side of your body if you are single. I thought that it was really cool that they were so proud to display their relationship status like that. Before we left (literally the day, of our flight back to California) I stopped by Hart and Huntington Hawaii and got this tattoo on my left foot.

Then, at a craft show, I happened upon a vendor who was selling some amazing fabric with lovely Plumeria prints. Immediately, I smiled, thinking about my honeymoon. I snatched up the fabric and turned it into some pleated purses.

More New Headbands

I know, I know! I just did a post about headbands, but these ones are different! Since not everyone likes the look of a wide headband, I thought I'd try my hand at some narrow ones.....Here they are, along with the matching handbags....

Organizing

Recently I published a post where I showed off my disorganized sewing room. That lead me to wonder, how could I be more organized?

With this awesome fabric organizing bin from TerisTreasure, I could keep my cutting table organized, and free from clutter.

These Crotched KnickKnack Bowls from TheYarnChick would be a great place to keep things like safety pins, and other small items all in one place.

With these cute thumb tacks from HoldsIt, I could keep my bulletin board better organized, and much less boring.

From PinsnPaperOnline, I found this fantastic Custom Resuable Envelope Organizer, which would allow me to keep all of my receipts better organized.
Finally, while this isn't for organizing, this beautiful photograph from jrzygirlphotography would help keep me focused and stress free while I'm working.
